Huawei Technologies has launched domestic sales of its first sedan under its newly established Stelato luxury battery electric vehicle (BEV) brand developed with Beijing-based state-owned automaker BAIC Group.

The Stelato S9, unveiled at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition earlier this year, is a luxury battery powered sedan designed to compete with models such as the Mercedes-Benz EQS. It is offered in two variants, Max and Ultra, priced at CNY399,800 (US$55,840) and CNY449,800 (US$62,820) respectively. The Max variant has a range of 816km,while the Ultra goes 721km.

The car comes standard with a 100kWh, 800V battery pack developed jointly by Huawei and Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and Huawei’s HarmonyOS operating system and Advanced Driving System 3.0 assisted driving system.

Deliveries are scheduled to begin in January 2025 with the first full year sales target set at 120,000 units. BAIC’s EV subsidiary BAIC BJEV is in charge of production, making use of the group’s established supplier network, platform development and production expertise.

Stelato comes under Huawei’s Harmony lntelligent Mobility Alliance (HIMA) which allows brands including Aito, Luxeed and Maextro to use the HarmonyOS operating system.

Huawei said 238,000 vehicles were sold in the first seven months of 2024 under the HIMA, including the Aito M5, M7 and M9 models.
