Honda Motor unveiled its sixth-generation Prelude coupe model after a 24-year absence from the market. The Japanese automaker said the new 2-door, 4-seater Prelude has been “inspired by the fun-to-drive performance, legacy of innovation, and dynamic styling of earlier generations” of the car.

The new Prelude is based on the Civic Type R chassis and is powered by the two-motor hybrid-electric powertrain found in the Civic hybrid models, featuring a 141 hp 2.0L Atkinson 4-cylinder in-line engine, generating a total power output of 200 hp. The model also marks the debut of Honda’s S+ Shift, an innovative new drive mode that “simulates a performance transmission experience for enhanced driver engagement.”

The suggested retail price for the Prelude in Japan is JPY 6,179,800 (US$ 41,750), with the model scheduled to be rolled out in the US in the fourth quarter of 2025 and in Europe in 2026.

Katsuhi Inoue, CEO of Honda's Automobile Operations, told reporters: "This model will play a significant role in the four-wheel automobile strategy going forward.”

Jessika Laudermilk, assistant vice president of Honda National Auto Sales, said in a statement: "We are thrilled to bring back such an iconic nameplate to the Honda lineup. The Prelude's return demonstrates our commitment to exciting, fun-to-drive vehicles and will help accelerate our hybrid-electric sales in the years ahead."
