Hesai Group, a LiDAR solutions provider, has been selected to deliver its AT128 long-range automotive LiDAR for the first production-ready Level 4 (L4) Robotaxi.

Set to enter mass production this year, the Robotaxi has been jointly developed by Didi Autonomous Driving, the self-driving technology arm of DiDi Global (DiDi), and GAC Aion New Energy Automobile (GAC Aion), a China-based electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer and a subsidiary of the Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC Group).

Initial deployments of the vehicles are expected to begin in 2026.

Equipped with four AT128 lidar sensors, the Robotaxi model features a 360° blind-spot-free perception system. The sensors deliver a resolution of 1200×128, capturing 1.53 million data points per second.  

The AT128 supports obstacle detection at ranges up to 200m and provides a 120° field of view, enhancing vehicle safety in both urban and highway environments.

Furthermore, the Robotaxi uses a total of 33 sensors integrated into a heterogeneous sensor fusion architecture to achieve real-time, 360° situational awareness.

The vehicle integrates GAC Aion’s safety redundancy platform with Didi’s hardware upgrades and autonomous driving software stack, offering a fully developed L4 autonomous driving solution.

Last month, Hesai was selected as the exclusive LiDAR provider for Chery Automobile’s new energy brand, iCAR.
