Hack stops Toyota port packing

Ransomware attack triggered a system glitch

Luke Martin July 06 2023

Toyota Motor plans to suspend operations at a packaging line on Friday 7 July after a cyberattack crippled Nagoya, Japan's biggest port.

The port is the main shipping export hub for the locally based automaker.

Toyota reportedly said it would decide on whether to continue operations based on the port's operational status.

Domestic production of finished cars would not be affected, Reuters reported.

The ransomware attack triggered a system glitch on the system for the loading and offloading of containers, stalling work for two days.

Cargo operations partially resumed by the afternoon on 6 July but the Nagoya Harbour Transportation Authority said it would not be fully functional until the evening.

According to Kyodo News, the Nagoya port authority said Russia based ransomware group Lockbit 3.0 was responsible for the hack.
