Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) announced that it has officially entered the New Zealand market, as the Chinese state-owned automaker steps up its ‘One GAC’ internationalisation strategy.

The company entered the New Zealand market with the launch of three models: the M8 plug-in hybrid MPV priced at NZ$ 85,990 (US$ 50,300) excluding on-road costs (ORCs); the AION V battery-powered compact SUV priced at NZ$ 49,990 (US$ 29,200); and the EM Zoom SUV powered by a 1.5L turbocharged engine and priced at NZD 31,990 (US$ 18,700).

GAC said the vehicles launched in New Zealand “reflect its commitment to delivering full-lifecycle mobility solutions, providing enjoyable, safe and intelligent transport experiences tailored to a wide range of customers.” The company confirmed that it plans to introduce three additional models in this market in the coming months, to achieve “full coverage across major segments, including A- and B-segment SUVs and a pickup truck.”

A GAC spokesperson said in a statement: “New Zealand represents a strategically significant market for GAC as we expand globally. Our commitment to quality and technological innovation ensures drivers enjoy vehicles that combine performance, safety, intelligence, and exceptional value.”

GAC said it plans to initially have sales outlets in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, and Christchurch, as it “actively develops its nationwide retail and service network, aligned with the globally unified “One GAC” brand identity, to provide a consistent, premium ownership experience backed by robust warranties, roadside assistance, and comprehensive aftersales support.”
