Ford makes new offer to US union

Offer includes improvements in wages and benefits

Luke Martin October 04 2023

Ford has made a new offer to the UAW in its latest effort to reach a tentative agreement on a new master labour agreement good until 30 April, 2028.

It has received two counter offers from the UAW.

Ford claimed its latest offer would provide its 57,000 UAW represented employees with a “record contract”.

The offer includes improvements in wages and benefits, product commitments for UAW factories and job security.

Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO, said in a statement: “We’ve put an offer on the table that will be costly for the company, especially given our large American footprint and UAW workforce, but one that we believe still allows [us] to invest in the future.”

The automaker said the union had taken a hard line on battery plants but it remained open to the possibility of working with the UAW on such plants but these were multi-billion-dollar investments and must "operate at competitive and sustainable levels".

Metaverse has the potential to disrupt all stages of the automotive value chain

Although the impact of the metaverse on the automotive industry is minor so far, this technology promises to make digital media experiences more immersive, inclusive, and accessible than today. Its impacts will be particularly felt by OEMs and sales and marketing. As the light vehicle market becomes increasingly saturated, investment will be redirected towards improving in-car media and safety features, leading to an increasingly connected vehicle network.
