Ford has contracted Texan retail electric provider TXU Energy to offer plug in vehicle owners free home charging via the TXU Free EV Miles programme.
Bill Crider, Ford head of global charging and energy services, said: “[Our] electric SUVs and trucks already have a lower operating and maintenance cost compared to petrol powered vehicles, and at home charging offers additional financial perks and future vehicle to grid services never before possible.”
EV owners would get a credit on their bill for all home energy used for vehicle charging during the free charging hours of 7pm to 1pm regardless of what hardware they use.
Sam Sen, head of energy transition solutions at TXU Energy, added: “This... fits squarely into [our] broader strategy of educating customers on the benefits of owning an EV, removing barriers to making the switch, and increasing grid resiliency.”
