Ford has slashed the price of its Lightning F-150, including a 16.6% cut for the base model.
The recent discounts were an attempt to increase the automaker's share of the EV pickup truck market as a US price war intensifies.
Following the announcement, Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted: “The Ford Lightning is a good vehicle, just somewhat expensive, especially given the high interest rates these days for any kind of loan.”
The base Lightning Pro variant now has a price tag US$49,995, down from $59,974. The top Platinum model will cost 6.2% less at $91,995.
Reuters, Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer for Ford EVs, told Reuters: "Shortly after launching the Lightning, rapidly rising material costs, supply constraints and other factors drove up the cost.”
Since August 2022, the automaker had hiked the prices four times.
