Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Serbia has produced its first electric cars at the factory in Kragujevac which are undergoing testing, local media reported.

The first tests had been carried out at the Kragujevac factory's testing track, SeeNews.com said.

However, main safety tests, such as crash tests, are conducted abroad, the president of the automaker's labour union, Sasa Djordjevic, told state broadcaster RTS.

Djordjevic said the new model might later be tested on the streets of Kragujevac, considering FCA Serbia's previous routine.

The name of the new model has not been revealed.

In April 2022, Stellantis and Serbia signed a deal to jointly invest EUR190m (US$205m) to launch EV production in Kragujevac. At the time, Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic said production was expected to begin early in 2024.

According to earlier reports, FCA Serbia would produce either a hybrid Fiat 500L model or an electric Panda SUV at Kragujevac.

FCA owns 67% of the share capital of FCA Serbia and the Serbian government the remainder.
