The Stellantis-owned Citroën brand has commissioned a new facility to produce its New C3 model at the Stellantis plant in Kragujevac, central Serbia.

This development is part of the company’s broader strategy to strengthen the model’s presence in Europe.

The Kragujevac facility underwent modernisation between 2022 and 2024, following an agreement between Stellantis and the Serbian Ministry of Economy.

The site now supports the production of electric vehicles and accommodates Stellantis’ new ‘Smart Car’ platform.

This platform is integral to Citroën's commitment to promoting electric vehicle production.

Employing over a 1,000 workers, the factory features advanced, automated, and robotised production lines.

The decision to manufacture the New C3 in Serbia supports the company’s goal to offer a compact, affordable, and versatile vehicle built in Europe.

The New C3 was designed with a focus on cost efficiency, including choices in design, equipment, and production location.

Since its arrival in European dealerships in the final quarter of 2024, the model has recorded more than 130,000 orders.

In the first quarter of 2025, the New C3 ranked third in overall sales in France and Italy and achieved second place in electric vehicle (EV) sales in France. The electric version constitutes 30% of all New C3 sales to date.

The Serbian production complements the existing facility in Trnava, Slovakia, where the New C3 Aircross is also produced.

Now in its fourth generation, the New C3 has sold over 5.6 million units globally.

The model includes Citroën’s Advanced Comfort suspension and redesigned comfort seats, alongside the C-Zen lounge dashboard.

The New C3 is available in petrol, hybrid, and electric versions, with the electric variant offering a range of over 199 miles (WLTP combined).

In April 2022, Stellantis signed an agreement with Serbia to jointly invest €190m ($204m) for launching the production of EVs in Kragujevac.
