China’s Windrose plans truck assembly plant in US

Windrose electric truck to rival Tesla semi plans

Dani Cole July 23 2024

Windrose, a Chinese electric truck start-up, has plans to establish as US assembly plant for its electric semi-truck for deliveries starting 2025, according to a Reuters report.

The news agency's report cited the company's Chief Executive Han Wen who disclosed the news in an interview.

By setting up on Tesla’s home turf, the move will see Windrose directly challenge Musk’s firm.

The plant, expected to be based in Georgia, will assemble vehicle parts manufactured in China to serve its US customers, the report said.

Windrose's heavy truck will face off with Tesla's Semi – which looks strikingly similar – at the same price of about US$250,000.

The trucks will come with a battery pack of more than 700 kilowatt hours, with a capacity to run more than 670 km (418 miles) on a single charge fully loaded at 49 tons, Reuters adds.

Mr Han told Reuters the “US market is friendly towards Chinese heavy electric trucks based on the fact that the tariffs on imported trucks are much lower than those on cars."
