The automotive industry in China has reached a milestone with the establishment of the GB/T 45500-2025 "Performance Requirements and Test Methods for Automotive LiDAR".

This initiative was driven by Hesai Group, a LiDAR technology provider for vehicles and robotics, in a collaborative effort involving more than 50 LiDAR producers and car manufacturers over a span of three years.

The standard sets unified testing methodologies and performance benchmarks for automotive LiDAR systems.

These include ranging accuracy, angular resolution, anti-interference, and environmental durability.

The aim is to support the safe deployment of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicles.

A LiDAR safety and performance standard initiated by Hesai in September 2024 and was adopted by ANSI in the US.

This standard, developed with global industry players like Intel, Bosch, and Continental, covers functional safety, cybersecurity, and electromechanical integrity for LiDAR systems.

In April, Hesai Group unveiled a new LiDAR solution, Infinity Eye, catering to autonomous driving systems from Level two (L2) to Level four (L4) autonomy.

The company also introduced three automotive-grade LiDAR products: ETX ultra-long-range, AT1440 ultra-high-definition, and FTX fully solid-state blind spot LiDAR.

Additionally, Hesai is selected to supply its AT128 long-range automotive LiDAR for the first production-ready Level four (L4) Robotaxi.

This vehicle, set for mass production this year, is a joint development by Didi Autonomous Driving and GAC Aion New Energy Automobile. Initial deployments are expected to begin in 2026.
