Bosch: We have ambitions to be a frontrunner in electromobility

Firm wants to not just be an auto supplier, but software partner for automakers

Dani Cole September 05 2023

Bosch Mobility said it had ambitions to be a “frontrunner in electromobility” at the IAA Mobility Show 2023 this week.

CEO Dr Stefan Hartung and Markus Heyn, chairman of Bosch Mobility, gave details of the firm’s financial progress as well as its future plans, including a desire to be a software partner for automakers.

Bosch said it expects sales at its mobility business division to increase by 10% this year.

It also expected sales revenue for onboard computers to generate €3 billion by 2026.

“Future vehicles will be as much at home in the cloud as well as on the roads,” Hartung said.

“The ultimate goal is ambitious: we want to use Bosch technology to bring about the software-defined vehicle.”

Hartung added that Bosch was “more than a mere automotive supplier”, instead having the capacity to support the automotive industry along the “entire value chain.”

When it came to sustainable mobility, Bosch was “doing everything” in its power “to ramp it up,” Markus Heyn said.

The firm was on target for its €6 billion in electromobility sales revenue by 2026.

Alongside startup Fetch.Ai, Bosch is developing a digital passport for electric vehicles, independent of central data platforms.

This software package “guarantees data security when accessing the charging network,” Heyn said, adding the software could also offer new services, including an AI-assisted traffic forecast to help drivers find charging points.

“As we embark on a journey to a new era of mobility, we would like to contribute with our wide-ranging experience.”

Tyres and exhaust systems expected to dominate the automotive aftermarket industry

Today’s consumers have a great desire to customize and distinguish their vehicles. The demand for aftermarket extras, including specialized wheels, performance upgrades, interior renovations, audio systems, and aesthetic alterations, has increased owing to this trend. Per GlobalData estimates, the global automotive aftermarket industry will be valued at $677 billion in 2023 and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 5.8% by 2030.
