Bosch, Brakes India Private Limited (BIPL) and Wheels India Limited (WIL) are setting up a joint venture to develop e-enabled air systems for commercial vehicles.

The new business will operate as a 50:50 venture between Bosch and the TSF Group, which includes Chennai, Tamil Nadu-headquartered BIPL and WIL.

The company will be registered in Chennai.

Robert Bosch management board member and Bosch mobility chairman Markus Heyn said: “With our extensive electronics and systems expertise, we will jointly create an attractive range of high-performance compressed air systems. Bosch is thus expanding its comprehensive portfolio for trucks and strengthening its leading role in the commercial vehicle industry.”

The planned operation will cover engineering, manufacturing and sales of electronically controlled and software-driven modules in air compression, air processing, air suspension and air parking brakes.

Subject to regulatory clearances, operations are expected to start before the end of 2026.

Under the agreement, the joint venture will manage domestic sales in India.

Global supply chain activities, excluding China, will continue to be handled by the existing entities of Bosch, BIPL and WIL.

The transaction has been approved by the boards of Bosch Group, Bosch Limited, Brakes India Private Limited and Wheels India Limited.

The companies said the partnership is intended to address increasing demand for “greater efficiency, safety and automation” in the commercial vehicle segment.

Brakes India managing director Sriram Viji added: “Through this joint venture, we will be able to offer air braking system parts for e-enabled future mobility to customers. We look forward to supporting the industry’s shift towards more advanced, electronically controlled, and software-driven systems.”

Earlier this week, Bosch said it had won a “major” order from Mercedes-Benz to supply a "large volume" of electric motors for the carmaker’s next-generation electric powertrains through the 2030s.

Bosch also said the agreement followed a strong 2025, when it secured more than 70 customer projects worldwide.

Last month, Bosch and Qualcomm expanded their collaboration to cover ADAS solutions.

As part of that broader arrangement, Bosch said it will begin ADAS production programmes based on its “cost-optimised vehicle computer architecture”, using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Ride platform.
