BMW Group has launched production of the second generation 2 Series Gran Coupé at its Leipzig plant in Germany.
The new model joins the ranks of the BMW 1 Series, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, and MINI Countryman, enhancing the plant's production portfolio.
The Leipzig facility is capable of producing up to 1,300 vehicles each day.
The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is set to hit the market in March 2025.
The latest iteration of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé boasts a more dynamic exterior, characterised by a low front section, elongated silhouette, and a “powerful-looking” rear.
Notably, the vehicle has increased in height by 25mm and in length by 20mm.
A new production machine, equipped with laser-beam welding technology, has been installed at the Leipzig plant to assemble the tailgate of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe.
The interior of the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe has been fully redesigned to be leather-free, featuring a curved display, similar to other BMW models produced in Leipzig.
The range is topped by the BMW M235 xDrive Gran Coupe, boasting a 221kW/300 hp four-cylinder engine.
Customers can choose from two unicolour, seven metallic, and four BMW Individual finishes, with an extensive selection of BMW Individual special paints also available for the compact four-door BMW 2 Series.
BMW Plant Director Petra Peterhansel said: “The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe, BMW 1 Series, BMW Active Tourer, MINI Countryman and our first fully electric model, the MINI Countryman Electric, make for good capacity utilisation at Plant Leipzig. Our products are very popular with customers.”
