Battery maker opens new Europe HQ

Site houses supplier's European head office and UK sales and distribution centre

Graeme Roberts September 18 2023

OEM and aftermarket battery supplier GS Yuasa Corporation's president Osamu Murao today officially opened a new facility at Ignition Park, a recently redeveloped industrial centre in Swindon, Wiltshire.

The 178,500 square foot site site is home to GS Yuasa Battery Europe's headquarters plus GS Yuasa Battery Sales UK's sales and distribution centre.

Warehouse systems include automated shuttle racking, AGV reach trucks and pick tunnels said to "significantly" improve order processing capacity and operational efficiency.

There are also dedicated EV chargers and an e-commerce picking area with specialist packing equipment.

The new facility is a part of the company's expansion plans spanning 10-15 years.

GS Yuasa Battery Europe will also relocate to the new facility from current offices at the supplier's UK factory in Ebbw Vale, Wales.

The UK HQ oversees six European companies and the move "will strengthen finance, supply chain and IT operations across the continent in support of the group's ambitions to grow market share in all markets and regions".

Andrew Taylor, managing director & CEO of GS Yuasa Battery Europe, said in a statement: “With the most advanced warehouse equipment [and] streamlined processes, [we are] poised to set new industry standards and chart a course for the future of battery manufacturing and distribution.”

AI set to be the face of the digital revolution shaping the automotive sector

The automotive sector is undergoing a digital transformation fuelled by changing global supply-chain dynamics, tighter market competition, and rising inflation. AI is a key part of this digital revolution. Focus is directed toward driver assistance features for safety and hazard detection and greater automation of many vehicle processes and functions. Simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), facial recognition, and motion tracking will be vital for developing incockpit safety features such as early driver fatigue detection.
