Survey of Just Auto readers points to major AI impacts for auto sector businesses ahead

David Leggett December 06 2023

An on-site poll of Just Auto’s readership suggests that a large majority in the automotive sector globally expect Artificial Intelligence (AI) to have a significant impact or huge impact on their business operations in the future.

The snap on-site poll asked readers: How do you think AI will impact your business over the next twelve months?

The multiple choice responses came in as follows:

  • Huge impact and a fundamental game changer – 242 responses
  • Significant impact, but will not alter our performance/strategy that much – 167 responses
  • Minor impact – 135 responses
  • Neutral/no impact – 111 responses
  • Total responses – 655 (poll open to Just Auto readers 3 July to 6 December 2023)

GlobalData analyst Jonathon Poskitt said: “Clearly, AI is going to impact businesses up and down the automotive industry’s value chain – from the supply of raw materials through to final sale and retail.

“It is interesting to note that so many respondents see AI as a potential game changer over a short time horizon. We’re on the cusp of significant change ahead. The winners will be the companies that grasp the nettle of the AI opportunities ahead.”

According to a report by GlobalData, generative AI is the fastest growing of the five advanced AI technologies receiving the most attention today.

Poskitt adds: “Generative AI can support efficiencies across the automotive sector, from inputs into a broad array of business processes, to customer experience, safety and regulation. This impact will only increase as generative AI becomes more accurate and is able to provide reliable factual advice.”
