Amsted opens China factory

Means Nanjing Automotive Components will make driveline products

Graeme Roberts March 07 2024

Amsted Automotive has opened a new factory in Nanjing, China, expanding to 22 facilities in North America, Europe and Asia.

This new factory will operate as Means Nanjing Automotive Components and make driveline products for vehicles assembled in Asia.

The factory has capacity to produce 1m controllable one way clutches per year and will commence production in the third quarter of 2024.

Jeremy Holt, president Amsted Automotive, said: "[The plant] will have the flexibility to produce products for a range of conventional, EV and HEV propulsion systems to support global automakers as market preferences and demand changes."

In 2021, Amsted Automotive Group combined Means Industries, Transform Automotive, SMW Manufacturing and Burgess-Norton Mfg, producing 100m components and assemblies annually. Its parts are used in automatic transmissions designed and manufactured in North America, Europe, and Asia.
