Wabco has started delivery of its Maxx air disc brakes (ADB) to Daimler, the world’s largest manufacturer of trucks weighing more than 6t.
Daimler now equips its current heavy-duty truck platforms, including its Actros, Antos and Arocs models, for the European market with Wabco’s single-piston air disc brakes.

Wabco maintains it is supplying Daimler with the lightest air disc brake package for heavy-duty vehicles in the market, consisting of the company’s Maxx 22 ADB on the front axle and new Maxx 22L ADB on the rear axle.
Wabco’s Maxx 22L, a variant of the company’s 22 ADB, features a rear-axle design, which requires less brake torque than air disc brakes for front axles.
“We are delighted Daimler has adopted Wabco’s Maxx 22 single-piston air disc brakes to help bring advanced braking capabilities and field reliability to Daimler’s current heavy-duty truck platforms,” said Wabco chairman and CEO, Jacques Esculier.
“This major supply agreement also further expands the range of Wabco technologies adopted by this leader.”
Wabco adds its single-piston design contains around 25% fewer parts compared to other air disc brakes available in the market. The company’s Maxx ADB also feature exchangeable ‘plug and play’ wear sensor technology, helping to improve reliability while lowering maintenance costs.
In addition, Wabco’s bi-directional adjuster optimises brake lining wear.
Wabco has supplied Maxxus air disc brakes to Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) for series production since 2012. Maxxus ADB is also based on Wabco’s Maxx single-piston technology.
