Volkswagen said production resumed today (16 June) at its Puebla plant in Mexico, adding all 16 VW Passenger Cars brand plants worldwide had now resumed output.

Production and logistics chief Andreas Tostmann said: "We have succeeded in resuming production with priority on maximum health protection.

For European plants alone, Volkswagen purchases about 100,000 different parts.

Production was suspended for about six weeks in Germany and Europe and 10 in South America.

Mexico was now resuming after about 11 weeks.

Zwickau resumed production first with the ID.31 on 23 April, followed by Wolfsburg on 28 April.

All China JV plants have resumed output.

Capacity utilisation is an average 60% to 70% of pre-COVID-19 crisis, VW said.
