Volvo Trucks, part of Sweden-based multinational manufacturing corporation Volvo Group, has opened its first battery assembly plant. The new factory is located in Ghent, Belgium, and will assemble battery packs for Volvo Trucks’ heavy-duty electric range.
The new plant is powered fully by renewable energy. The opening will help shorten lead times for customers and boost circularity.

In a press release, Roger Alm, president of Volvo Trucks, commented: “This investment shows our strong commitment to electrifying truck transportation. By 2030, at least 50% of all trucks we sell globally will be electric and by 2040, we will be a carbon-neutral company.”
Volvo Trucks are assembled in 13 countries worldwide. In 2021, the company delivered approximately 123,000 trucks across the globe.
