Geely's Volvo Cars said it planned to spend KRW150bn (US$124m) over the next three years to expand its aftersales service network in South Korea, according to local reports.

Local distributor Volvo Car Korea said it planned to almost double the size of the network to 52 service centres and 312 repair centres by 2023.

The company was originally established in 1998 by Volvo Cars, since taken over by Zhejiang Geely Holding.

Volvo has been one of the best performing car brands in South Korea this year with sales rising by 24% to 5,414 units in the first five months of 2020 from 4,358 in the same period of last year.

The overall market for imported passenger vehicles in this period was up by 12% at 100,886 units while vehicle domestic sales were marginally lower at 623,670 units.

In August 2019, the company introduced the third generation S60 sedan which competes with best sellers such as the BMW 3-series, Mercedes-Benz C-class and Audi A4.
