Volkswagen France will start recalling 940,000 diesel cars in February. Owners would receive three letters detailing the process, newspaper reports said.
One letter was sent last month, the next, going out in January, will detail the work to be done on emission controls and the last will invite owners to contact dealerships.

Last September, Volkswagen admitted to having installed emission test-cheating software into 11m diesel engine vehicles globally.
VW France set up a website and and call centre to advise owners if their vehicles needed modifications. About 600,000 had contacted the automaker and 150,000 affected vehicles had been identified.
The software update would take half an hour to an hour depending on model and owners would receive a courtesy vehicle with their own car also getting a safety check and a wash.
The French unit would hire additional workers to oversee the recalls and dealerships would likely open longer.
