Volkswagen Group says it is set to enhance the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) in its future vehicles based on the modular transverse toolkit (MQB) platform, aiming for level 2+ (“enhanced partially automated driving”) capabilities.

This initiative, in partnership with Valeo and Mobileye, is poised to improve both safety and driving comfort in high-volume vehicles.

Volkswagen’s extended executive committee member and member of the board of management of the Volkswagen brand responsible for procurement Dirk Große-Loheide said: “This cooperation supports us on our road to transformation: by sourcing hardware and software together, we streamline procurement, reduce complexity, and improve efficiency.

“It also empowers our performance programme by enhancing technology while keeping costs competitive, ensuring high-quality solutions for our customers.”

Set to launch in next few years, the collaboration will introduce hands-free driving on specific highway sections, along with features such as traffic jam assist, hazard detection, parking assist, driver monitoring, and 360-degree emergency assist.

Augmented reality displays are also part of the future-ready enhancements.

The upgraded system will be equipped with a 360-degree array of cameras and radars, along with software-defined capabilities, enabling hands-free driving on approved roads, smart parking, and enhanced safety for occupants and pedestrians.

Valeo will contribute with high-performance electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and software for parking solutions.

Mobileye will bring its Surround ADAS platform to the table, featuring the EyeQ6 high processor and mapping technologies.

This marks the first integration of these components into a single system.

Volkswagen Group reported a slight increase in full-year 2024 sales revenue, reaching €324.7bn ($353.7bn), driven by growth in its financial services business.
