New vehicle sales in Vietnam jumped close to 53% to 13,305 units in October, from 8,720 units in the same month of last year, according to data released by the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association.
Cumulative sales in the first ten months of the year increased 36.5% to 103,432 units from 75,766 units in the same period of last year. Economic growth in the country has continued to accelerate in recent months, driven by rising industrial output and domestic consumption.

Sales of passenger cars, SUVs and MPVs combined, increased by 34% to 62,183 units during the ten-month period, from 46,368 units previously. Commercial vehicle sales rose by more than 40% to 41,249 units from 29,398 units.
Toyota led the overall market in the first nine months of the year with sales rising by more than 20% to 31,919 units. Truong Hai (Thaco), which assembles Kias and various other commercial vehicles, reported a sales rise close to 34% to 25,667 units.
Third-placed Ford reported a 69% jump in sales to 10,786 units, reflecting strong demand for the Transit minibus/van and the Ranger pickup truck, which together accounted for 61% of sales.
VinaMazda sales jumped by 156% to 7,216 units, with the BT-50 and the Mazda 3 its best-selling models.
Honda sales rose by 66% to 5,259 units.
