Vietnam’s new vehicle market continued to steam ahead in September, with the Vietnam Automotive Manufacturers Association reporting a rise in deliveries to dealers of almost 49% year on year to 19,256 units compared with 12,948 units a year earlier. Sales in the first nine months of the year increased by close to 61% to 144,674 units, from 90,139 units previously, reflecting continued strong economic growth – driven by buoyant domestic consumption and manufacturing investment.

Sales of passenger cars, SUVs and MPVs combined increased by over 49% to 81,234 units in the nine-month period, from 54,406 previously. Commercial vehicle sales rose by over 81% to 63,440 units from 35,733 units.

Toyota was the leading brand in the January-September period, with sales rising by 30% to 36,144 units. Truong Hai (Thaco) group, a local company with a number of brands in its portfolio including Kia, Mazda, Peugeot passenger vehicles and Hyundai and Kia commercial vehicles, reported a 92% rise in overall sales to 55,178 units. 

Ford’s cumulative sales increased by 47% to 13,598 units, while Honda’s sales were up by 20% at 5,747 units.
