Valmet Automotive said it had started recruiting over 1,000 new assemblers and 'white collars' for its Uusikaupunki car plant in Finland as it prepares for Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV production.
GLC assembly starts in early 2017. The manufacturing contract follows that for the A-Class of which Valmet has already built over 100,000.
The 100 'white collars' will be recruited for production, production support functions and engineering service.
Valmet initially will recruit 250 assemblers in various positions in body, paint and assembly shops and internal logistics.
The contract assembler has already hired 200 people, taking its headcount to 1,550. With subcontractors, the tally is 2,000 people and eventually will rise to 3,000.
