Valeo China says its customers are no longer content with simply owning a vehicle, but rather are looking to personalise the experience of mobility.

The trend in China echoes that experienced in many other markets around the world as purchasers seek to add authenticity to products while at the same time, look to adapt the mix of mobility solutions, especially in urban areas.

“The global automotive sector in China is experiencing revolutions,” said Valeo China CTO, Gu Jianmin at the recent Global Automotive Forum in Chongqing 900 miles east of Shanghai. “Electrification, digitalisation and digital mobility. Our customer is not satisfied with owning a car or driving a car – they are also interested in customising their car.

“How do we deal with the challenges in the automotive sector? We can provide the whole set of electrification systems and in order to reduce cost, we can provide low voltage solutions. We can reduce costs by 20%, extend range and maximise speed. For Valeo we focus on practical technologies. We should focus on what we are good at.”

Since first setting up business in China, Valeo has followed four steps: serve its traditional international customers, expand business with Chinese car markers, make domestic products for the Chinese market and develop technologies for the world market from the country.

The supplier also has ‘Talent Localisation” as one of its core strategies, while in line with its ‘Be Chinese in China’ philosophy, Valeo China is enhancing its R&D capabilities. Valeo invests 12% of its sales revenue in R&D.
