ZF Lemforder Corporation – a division of ZF Friedrichshafen AG – has opened a 40,000 square-foot expansion of its Duncan, S.C. facility (191 Parkway West, Duncan, S.C.).

The expansion was completed to produce front and rear axle assemblies for the new BMW Z4 Roadster to be built at BMW Manufacturing Corporation in upstate South Carolina. The Duncan facility had produced the front axle assembly for the Z3 Roadster since 1994. In addition, it also produces complete front and rear axle assemblies for the BMW X5.

ZF says that the additional work will create new jobs, with 60 people directly and indirectly involved with production, bringing the plant total to approximately 260. The expansion increases the size of the facility to 125,000 square feet.

“The upgrades to this facility are another step forward in our longtime relationship with BMW Manufacturing, as well as our relationship with the people of South Carolina,” said Bernd Habersack, President, ZF Group North American Operations (NAO).

“This expansion further establishes our position as one of the leading suppliers in the region,” said Bernd Birnbaum, ZF Lemforder Plant Manager.
