Vehicle production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated 293,193 units, up from the 226,907 cars and trucks built last week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 520,100 vehicles, down 24.1 percent from like-2000’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 206,394 vehicles this week, up 27.1 percent from the 162,376 cars and trucks built last week.  To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 368,770 units, down 25.7 percent from the 496,558 vehicles built in like-2000.


This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 51,374, a 27.6 percent increase from the 40,274 units assembled last week.  Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 91,648 units, down 26.5 percent compared to the 124,773 vehicles produced in like-2000.


Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General Motors Corp. accounted for 25.5 percent; Ford Motor Co., 35.5 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 10.1 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.5 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.6 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.7 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 2.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. America Inc., 2.2 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.0 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.8 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 1.0 percent; and other manufacturers, 2.0 percent.
