Volkswagen of America, Inc. today reported its best June sales in 27 years.

In June, Volkswagen sold 33,410 new cars in the U.S., which represents a 9 percent increase over last year’s mark of 30,640. Not since 1973 has Volkswagen enjoyed June sales of this magnitude.

Volkswagen’s popular New Beetle established a new June record and its third best month ever with sales of 7,837, up 3.5 percent from last year’s figure of 7,575.

Jetta also set a June record with sales of 13,348, a 1.9 percent increase over 1999’s 13,101.
