The downtime for the previous week was due to General Motors and Ford having their traditional summer shutdowns.
Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 8,993,609 vehicles, down 0.9% from like-2004’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 200,355 vehicles last week, up 117.4% from the 92,148 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2005 US vehicle output totals an estimated 6,690,571 units, down 0.5% compared to the 6,726,134 vehicles built in like-2004.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 37,130, an increase of 139.9% from the 15,480 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2005 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,438,398 units, down 4.4% compared to the 1,504,050 vehicles produced in like- 2004.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 34.0%; Ford Motor Co., 25.4%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 7.8%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 9.5%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 0.0%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 7.9%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 4.2%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.3%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.0%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 2.7%; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.3%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.5%; and other manufacturers, 4.4%.
