It’s a short work week in the United States – Thursday is Thanksgiving Day, traditionally marking the start of a long weekend for many Americans.


Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 14,902,192 vehicles, down 1.4% from like-2003’s pace.


In the US, automakers are expected to produce 161,987 vehicles this week, down 33.0% from the 241,715 cars and trucks built last week. To date, calendar 2004 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 11,002,292 units, down 1.8% compared to the 11,199,213 vehicles built in like-2003.


This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 53,470, a decrease of 1.3% from the 54,155 units assembled last week. Estimated calendar-2004 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,484,667 units, up 4.9% compared to the 2,367,675 vehicles produced in like-2003.


Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 25.6%; Ford Motor Co., 25.0%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 12.6%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 6.2%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 10.9%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 6.6%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.8%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.7%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.6%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 1.9%; Subaru of Indiana Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 1.1%; and other manufacturers, 4.0%.
