The new plant, to keep up with high demand for light trucks in the North American market, will build about 150,000 Tundra pickups a year from 2006. TMC’s plans include an investment of approximately $US800 million and jobs for about 2,000 people.
Once the new plant is in operation from 2006, a year after another new plant in Tijuana, Mexico, begins pickup truck assembly, Toyota North American production capacity is expected to reach around 1.65 million units a year.
