Toyota Motor officials are denying reports that the company will build its sixth North American assembly plant in San Antonio, Texas, according to Friday’s edition of the BRG Automotive Newswire.

BRG said that Toyota officials it had interviewed maintained that reports in Japanese and US newspapers were incorrect and insisted that no decision has been made as to whether Toyota even needs a sixth assembly plant in North America.
The earlier reports indicated that Toyota would build pickup trucks and SUVs at the new plant, BRG said.
As reported by just-auto, Toyota last year said it would start selling its passenger cars and trucks in Mexico and subsequently announced the building of a plant near Tijuana, Mexico, that would ship truck bodies to its Tacoma pickup assembly facility in Southern California.
Soon afterwards, in what seemed like a last-minute decision, Toyota said it would build 20,000 Tacoma pickup trucks at the Tijuana plant as well.
The BRG Automotive Newswire report said that while the Toyota officials denied the latest rumours about a Texan truck plant, they did acknowledge that the company is considering alternatives for another plant in North America close to the newly established Mexican market.
