Pontiac general manager Lynn Myers told Automotive News that engineers are making two changes to the GTO’s powertrain to increase low-end torque so that the sports coupe delivers better zero-to 60 mph performance and to the exhaust system to give it a more distinctive “Pontiac exhaust note”.

Coincidentally, Holden has modified the exhaust system of the latest V8-powered VY Commodores to give a more distinctive ‘V8 burble’.

Similar changes are expected soon to the Monaro Coupe derivative on which the GTO will be based.
