Vehicle
production this week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico is expected to hit an estimated
335,215 units, up from the 306,559 cars and trucks built last week, according
to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including this week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals
9,457,006 vehicles, down 12.7% from like-2000’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers are expected to produce 240,182 vehicles this week,
up 5.7% from the 227,297 cars and trucks built last week.

To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,785,716 units,
down 13.9% from the 7,882,319 vehicles built in like-2000.

This week’s Canadian vehicle production is estimated at 56,722, a 26.7% increase
from the 44,764 units assembled last week.

Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,554,309
units, down 15.2% compared to the 1,832,409 vehicles produced in like-2000.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production this week in the U.S., General
Motors Corp. accounted for 33.0%; Ford Motor Co., 31.3%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler,
13.6%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 5.8%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.3%; Nissan
Motor Mfg. Corp., 1.4%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.1%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive
Inc., 1.9%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7%; AutoAlliance International
Inc., 0.7%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7%; BMW of North America
Inc., 0.0%; and other manufacturers, 1.5%.
