Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 6,808,769 vehicles, down 3.1% from like-2002’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 240,448 vehicles last week, down 9.4% from the 265,391 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2003 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 5,029,677 units, down 2.8% from the 5,172,311 vehicles built in like-2002.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 49,734, a 2.3% increase from the 48,594 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2003 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,082,277 units, down 4.0% compared to the 1,127,479 vehicles produced in like-2002.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.5%; Ford Motor Co., 25.2%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 13.9%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.3%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.4%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.9%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.2%; Subaru Automotive Inc., 0.9%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.8%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.8%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.5%; and other manufacturers, 1.6%.
