Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 332,472 units, down from the 352,936 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 14,717,177 vehicles, up 6.2% from like-2001’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 240,344 vehicles last week, down 10.4% from the 268,359 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2002 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 10,801,131 units, up 8.0% from the 10,005,312 vehicles built in like-2001.

Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 59,683, a 24.9% increase from the 47,772 units assembled the previous week.

Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 2,328,935 units, up 3.7% compared to the 2,244,776 vehicles produced in like-2001.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 30.8%; Ford Motor Co., 25.4%; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 17.1%; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0%; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 5.6%; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.4%; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.3%; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.0%; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.8%; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.9%; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.8%; BMW of North America Inc., 1.3%; and other manufacturers, 1.6%.
