Vehicle production last week in the US, Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated 319,204 units, up from the 267,922 cars and trucks built the previous week, according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals 9,557,770 vehicles, up 5.3 percent from like-2001’s pace.
In the US, automakers were expected to produce 250,704 vehicles last week, up 22.2 percent from the 205,093 cars and trucks built the previous week. To date, calendar 2002 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,995,598 units, up 7.5 percent from the 6,508,231 vehicles built in like-2001.
Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 43,024, a 44.8 percent increase from the 29,709 units assembled the previous week. Estimated calendar-2002 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,530,411 units, up 2.6 percent compared to the 1,491,460 vehicles produced in like-2001.
Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the US, General Motors Corp. accounted for 33.8 percent; Ford Motor Co., 31.2 percent; Chrysler of DaimlerChrysler, 8.6 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 7.0 percent; Toyota Motor Mfg. Inc., 6.3 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 3.6 percent; New United Motor Mfg. Inc., 3.0 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 1.1 percent; Mitsubishi Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 1.7 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.8 percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.7 percent; BMW of North America Inc., 0.8 percent; and other manufacturers, 1.4 percent.
