Nissan’s is recalling 125,466 Murano sport-utility vehicles because of a wiring problem that could potentially cause engine failure and result in a crash, federal safety regulators told Reuters.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reportedly said the problem, affecting SUVs from the 2003 to 2005 model years, stemmed from a wire in the vehicles’ alternators.

The wire may break inside the alternators, causing the battery to stop charging and the engine to stop running, NHTSA said in an advisory on its web site cited by the news agency.
