Rich succeeds John Polhemus, 58, who will retire after more than 33 years with the company.
Rich, 47, is currently president of the Goodyear Chemical division.
Rich was elected president of Goodyear Chemical in 2001 after joining the company in 2000. During his tenure as president, Rich has led the turnaround of the division, restructuring its operations, posting increases in earnings and cash flow, and expanding the business into new high-growth markets.
Rich also has led Goodyear’s introduction to Six Sigma, implementing it initially in the Chemical division where the programme achieved first-year savings to the company of more than $40 million.
Before Goodyear, Rich served in various senior management positions at General Electric, where he worked for 18 years.
