“This is a significant milestone,” said Subaru America chief Kunio Ishigami. “The B9X combines a bold new design with the trademark Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, and is our first seven passenger vehicle.”

The B9X will make its world debut at the Detroit motor show in January.

SOA executive VP Fred Adcock added: “This is also a Subaru that will appeal to a larger audience. The new B9X is the logical step for a current Legacy or Outback owner looking to move up in size, flexibility, feature content and refinement.”

The B9X design theme first appeared on a 2003 Geneva show concept, the B11S, and was further developed for the B9SC and R1e concepts, which made their US debut at Detroit last January. As the model inherited its design theme from those concepts, Subaru decided to name the production vehicle B9X.

It will be built at Subaru of Indiana Automotive’s plant in Lafayette.
