Vehicle
production last week in the U.S., Canada and Mexico was expected to hit an estimated
106,785 units, down from the 323,761 cars and trucks built in the previous week,
according to Ward’s Automotive Reports.

Including last week’s estimates, calendar year North American output now totals
8,427,607 vehicles, down 13.4 percent from like-2000’s pace.

In the U.S., automakers were expected to produce 54,182 vehicles last week,
down 77.1 percent from the 236,806 cars and trucks built the week before.

To date, calendar 2001 U.S. vehicle output totals an estimated 6,043,658 units,
down 14.6 percent from the 7,079,250 vehicles built in like-2000.

Last week’s Canadian vehicle production was estimated at 18,876, a 62.8 percent
decrease from the 50,735 units assembled the previous week.

Estimated calendar-2001 Canadian vehicle production now stands at 1,413,191
units, down 16.0 percent compared to the 1,682,122 vehicles produced in like-2000.

Of the cars and trucks slated for production last week in the U.S., General
Motors Corp. accounted for 0.0 percent; Ford Motor Co., 0.0 percent; Chrysler
of DaimlerChrysler, 58.8 percent; Honda of America Mfg. Inc., 0.0 percent; Toyota
Motor Mfg. Inc., 18.4 percent; Nissan Motor Mfg. Corp., 10.7 percent; New United
Motor Mfg. Inc., 2.5 percent; Subaru-Isuzu Automotive Inc., 0.0 percent; Mitsubishi
Motor Mfg. of America Inc., 0.0 percent; AutoAlliance International Inc., 0.0
percent; Mercedes-Benz U.S. of DaimlerChrysler, 0.0 percent; BMW of North America
Inc., 3.4 percent; and other manufacturers, 6.2 percent.
