Michelin
North America is cranking up all of its passenger and light truck tyre manufacturing
plants to work around the clock seven days a week as soon as possible.
Last autumn, Michelin turned out an additional two million tyres to help fill
the demand created by the Firestone recall of 6.5 million.

The
company has opened a customer service support centre specifically to handle
Ford dealer orders.
Michelin is buying moulds and adding capacity in order to meet demand it expects
will continue to grow, due to Ford’s replacement campaign.
In addition, as Firestone’s contracts expire, Michelin expects to supply more
tyres to Ford.
The French-owned firm already supplies 70 percent of the 2002 Explorer’s
tyres and also ships to Ford affiliates Volvo and the Jaguar Formula One racing
team.
In addition to increasing North American production, Michelin will import tyres
from its overseas factories as necessary.
