Metaldyne’s Barcelona, Spain operation will manufacture the chassis modules, beginning in 2006. The contract is worth $US40 million annually at full production.
Each mini-corner module consists of a knuckle, a bearing, a dust shield and a wheel hub with studs installed, which are assembled and post-assembly machined. The Dynaturn process will be utilized to improve lateral runout to 13.5 microns, which significantly improves brake performance and reduces warranty cost issues.
With 140 employees, Metaldyne Barcelona currently manufactures steering knuckles, crankshaft dampers and isolation pulleys for various customers in Europe. This new business more than doubles the revenues of the Spanish operation.
