Mercedes-Benz USA (MBUSA) today announced that it has initiated a recall of approximately 7100 vehicles – model-year 2000 S-Class sedans and CL500s manufactured since January 26 – to replace a blower motor regulator of the climate control system.
The regulator could develop an electrical short that may cause surrounding plastic, insulation, and wiring to melt and possibly burn. Only a small number of vehicles are likely to develop the problem, but the company has decided to replace all regulators with an updated version. There have been seven incidents, but no injuries or accidents have been reported as a result.

MBUSA is notifying owners of all affected vehicles, requesting that they contact their retailer to schedule replacement. Located just in front of the glove box, the regulator can be replaced in less than an hour. This operation will be performed at no charge to clients.
Mercedes-Benz retailers are providing a range of client care measures such as washing and refueling vehicles, plus free alternate transportation will be arranged if necessary. The updated regulators are now being installed in production.
