Associated Press (AP) said the layoffs will be at the Southview component plant in Holland and the affected workers will be a mix of salaried and hourly employees.
Officials were unable to immediately tell AP how many jobs will be lost at the Glasgow plant, though it will be fewer than in Holland.
Johnson Controls officials reportedly said production at the US plants will be phased out over 18 months, beginning this summer following a decision to consolidate sun visor manufacturing at the company’s plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico.
AP said Johnson Controls makes sun visors for General Motors Ford, DaimlerChrysler, Toyota, Honda, Nissan Motor and Mitsubishi Motors and the company has about 5,000 employees in the Holland area and 9,300 throughout Michigan.
Associated Press noted that 427 workers who make door panels at Southview will not be affected.
