Isuzu Motors America will add the i-series pickup to its lineup of sport utility vehicles for the 2006 model year.

Essentially a rebadged GMC Canyon, the i-series pickup will come in two models. The i-280 4×2 Extended Cab will be equipped with a 2.8-litre inline four-cylinder engine, with either a manual or an automatic transmission. The i-350 4×4 Crew Cab will be equipped with a 3.5-litre inline five-cylinder engine with automatic transmission.


Both models will be have Isuzu’s seven-year/75,000-mile powertrain limited warranty and seven-year/75,000-mile roadside assistance.


Production of the two models is expected to begin in June 2005 but pricing has not been announced.


Isuzu Motors America currently offers the GM North America-built Ascender sport utility vehicle in five and seven-passenger version. It’s essentially a rebadged Chevrolet Trailblazer – other variants of this US-designed SUV are also made for GMC (Envoy) and Buick (Rainier).
