The automaker made no change in its third-quarter production, which is declining 4.4 percent to 1.29 million vehicles from a year earlier.
Car production is increasing 2.7 percent to 678,000, while truck production is declining 11 percent to 621,000, the Detroit-based company said.
The announcement comes a week after General Motors, Ford Motor Co. and DaimlerChrysler AG announced their U.S. auto sales fell in June, a decline that exceeded forecasts as buyers opted for cars made by Japanese and European rivals. First-half sales for the auto industry rose 6.1 percent to a record 9.12 million.
GM shares fell 1 to 61 3/8. The stock has declined 7.2 percent in the last 12 months.
